Want to talk classic videogames?  X-Men Arcade was a game everyone who grew up in the arcade era (are there even arcades around anymore?!) would spend all of their mom’s laundry money on.  To relive those nostalgic days, the game is now available for purchase on the Xbox 360 Live network and the Playstation 3 Network.

PlayStation 3 Is Now 3D Compatible

If you have a PlayStation 3 (the photo above is the new white console), are connected online, and a 3D TV – you’re now 3D compatible.  Trust me that having a 3D PlayStation 3 doesn’t really mean much right now BUT once the market is flooded with 3D games and 3D DVD / Blue-ray movie release within the next 12 months – you’ll be one entertained kid sitting on that couch.

Now, in June this year we did the 3D Firmware update. Every PlayStation 3 that’s connected online now has a new version of this Firmware.

At the last count we’ve got 35.8 million PlayStation 3s out there – that means there’s an instant market of around 36 million 3D-ready PlayStation 3 consoles. The upgrade basically makes every PlayStation 3 HDMI 1.4 compatible – that’s the standard that governs 3D displays.

What this means is that there is no setup at all required. If you have a PlayStation 3 and you buy a 3DTV, you simply connect via your HDMI cable and your PlayStation 3 will automatically recognise that you’ve got a 3D display attached.

In September this year, we’re launching another Firmware upgrade – and this one is going to upgrade the PS3 to support Blu-ray movies in 3D. Again, you won’t have to do anything – just connect your PS3. For the film market that’s a very significant event.

Then later in the year – we’re not going to date it yet – the PS3 is going to support 3D photos. Of course the popularity of 3D isn’t just going to come from movies and games. There’s 3D cameras on the market, there’s 3D camcorders coming on the market in the next 12 months as well, and 3D broadcasts.

So you’ll see 3D games in the next 12 months, you’ll see Blu-ray movies in 3D, and as soon as the broadcasts start through our PlayTV services, you’re going to watch 3D content [through that service].

YouTube will be supporting 3D content over the next 12 months as well – and you’ll be able to watch that on the PlayStation 3. And as you start taking 3D pictures of your family or 3D camcorder movies, you can play those back on PS3, too.

It’s a great purchase proposition and future proof.

To compete with Microsoft’s Kinect For Xbox 360, Sony made an announcement this morning at E3 that the PlayStation Move will be released on September 19th.  PlayStation Move itself will retail for $49.99 with the navigation controller going for an extra $29.99.  Along with the launch, about 15 games will be release with more to come in the following months.  Is it just me or does that controller look like a dildo (pause)?  Also, for all you PS3 online gamers, they’re introducing the PlayStation Plus Network which will be similar to the Xbox Live services.  They will offer better servers, beta invites, more downloadable content, etc. but there will be a subscription fee.

Sega Dreamcast was hands down my favorite system of all time!  Those original NFL and NBA 2K games were the shit!  This fall, Dreamcast favorite’s Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi will be available for download on the online Playstation 3 Network and Xbox Live.

Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi will be the first two Dreamcast titles to hit the Playstation Network and Xbox Live as digital downloads this fall in celebration of the 11th anniversary of the launch of the Dreamcast. Sega says more classic titles will follow.

The games are based on the original Dreamcast title “featuring all of the gameplay that older players fell in love with, whilst allowing a new audience to discover it for the very first time.” The titles will also include enhancements like higher resolution visuals, surround sound, online leader boards and of course both achievement and trophy integration.

I introduced the Playstation 3 Move last night and it’s clear that Sony ripped of the popularity of the Nintendo Wii with their new system but then again, so did Microsoft with their Xbox Natal concept. It’s going to be interesting to see which company will be able to prevail and will have the best motion detection gaming system? Only time will tell…

Sony just made a huge announcement today in that they’ll release their PlayStation Move system and motion controller this Fall to compete with the Nintendo Wii and the highly anticipated Microsoft Xbox Natal.

The combination of the PS3 system and PlayStation Eye camera detects the precise movement, angle, and absolute position in 3D space of PlayStation Move motion controller, allowing users to intuitively play the game as if they themselves are within the game. PlayStation Move motion controller delivers unmatched accuracy through its advanced motion sensors, including a three-axis gyroscope, a three-axis accelerometer, and a terrestrial magnetic field sensor, as well as a color-changing sphere that is tracked by PlayStation Eye camera. Through PlayStation Move system, both fast and subtle motion can be detected, whether the user is swinging a tennis racket, or painting with a brush. With PlayStation Move motion controller, users can provide direct input through action buttons and an analog trigger, while receiving physical feedback from rumble functionality and visual feedback from the sphere’s ability to display a variety of different colors. Furthermore, PlayStation Eye camera can capture the player’s voice or image, enabling augmented reality experiences.

The newly announced PlayStation Move sub-controller is a one-handed controller, developed to further expand the game play options that PlayStation Move games can offer*2. PlayStation Move sub-controller features a sleek curved design that pairs with the motion controller and comes with an analog stick and directional buttons that allow users to easily control the game when moving characters or choosing a direction. Like all other Wireless Controllers for the PS3 system, it comes with a built in lithium-ion rechargeable battery as well as Bluetooth® technology, enabling the controller to transfer the input information wirelessly to the PS3 system without a cable. PlayStation Move motion controller and sub-controller will further broaden the gaming experience on the PS3 system for all genres, from games that use one motion controller to games that use both controllers.
