LeBron James & John Wall Go HAM At Chris Paul’s Charity Game

October 3, 2011 by

HoopMixtape is having one hell of a run with all these All-Star Game highlight videos all courtesy of David Stern, the NBA Owners, and the NBA Lockout. After Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony and other NBA superstars attended a NBA Players Union / Owners meeting in New York City on Friday, they split to North Carolina for CP3′s Charity All-Star Game. Kevin Durant ended up being the game’s leading scorer with 48 (and an impressive threw the legs dunk) but LeBron and John Wall stole the show with their array of high flying crams. LeBron’s dunks aren’t that impressive in the style category but he just gets so high and throws them down with so much power that they become pretty jaw dropping. Style wise though, John Wall killed it. That off the wall-windmill on one take?!?! Game over…

DeMarcus Cousins Shows Out At Goodman Vs Indy Pro Am

September 27, 2011 by

Doesn’t it seem like all of the summers best basketball has taken place on the East Coast? For those who didn’t already know, the Midwest finally got some NBA love during the Goodman vs. Indy Pro Am game that took place at Butler University on Sept. 24. Players such as Zach Randolph, Gordon Hayward, Alec Burks (Jazz first-round draft pick in 2011), Lance Stephenson, Shelvin Mack and George Hill all represented for Indiana. For Goodman, the headliners were Kevin Durant, John Wall and my guy DeMarcus Cousins.

I might be Cousins biggest supporter. Many have labeled him as a problem child, which he has caused problems so far during his pro career, but trust me, this kid is going to be the next best center outside of Dwight Howard for the next decade once he learns how to control his temper and focus more in the paint instead of his outside shooting (which he’s pretty good at). The kid’s a beast, plain and simple. Check out some quick highlights.

Report: J.R. Smith Signs One-Year Deal With China

As a huge Nugget’ fan, this is starting to get hard to swallow. First we lose one of our starters for the 2011-12 season (if there even will be one) in Wilson Chandler, and now it’s being reported that J.R. Smith has signed to play overseas in China as well. According to Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski, Smith has signed a one-year deal with Zhejiang Wanma of China Basketball Association. As the deal goes with Chandler, the CBA has a no opt-out clause which means both Smith and Chandler have to play the entire year overseas before they can make their way back into the NBA.

Smith – who has been known as an enigma and a pain in George Karl’s ass – is one of the league’s most hot and cold players. One game he’s going off like Jordan in Game 6, and the next he’s colder than Adam Morrison’s shooting hand. Despite all of that, he’s still one of the most potent scorers in the league off the bench and still makes Denver better with him on the court. It’s obvious that some guys who have big contracts (i.e. LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant) are sitting comfortably and enjoying their time by playing pickup ball during the lockout, there are still some guys who are looking to make money while there’s money to be made, and one of those guys is Smith.

He needs to make as much money as he can right now because it’s evident that teams will be going after Chandler when he makes his return to the NBA next season but it’s hard to picture which teams will be jumping the gun for J.R.’s mishaps and inconsistency.

A Baltimore Love Thing: Carmelo Anthony Assembles Super Team To Take On Philly

Has there been a more entertaining offseason for basketball than 2011? I mean, the Goodman League has been outstanding and it shows how much these players truly care about the game instead of the paycheck, but there’s nothing quite like neighborhood competition in basketball. Whose crew is better. Which city produces the best overall talent (in most cases like these, Los Angeles wins easily due to it’s size)? It’s no secret that ‘Melo and his former college teammate at Syracuse, Hakim Warrick, have gone through friendly competition over the years, but things just got serious for a minute. According to Warrick himself, he has something up his sleeve in hopes of not having to eat his words.

“My Philadelphia All-Stars look forward to getting on the court and proving to Melo and the people of Baltimore/DC that the best ballers come out of Philly,” said Warrick. “Melo told me he was bringing a squad that can’t be beat so I have a few ‘All-Star’ surprises for him when my team takes the court on September 25.”

Unless Hakim is hiding something, this is his list of ballers that he has acquired for Team Philly: Kyle Lowry, Lou Williams, Jason Thompson, John Salmons, Wayne Ellington, Markieff and Marcus Morris, Flip Murray and others who have not been mentioned. As far as ‘Melo goes, we all know he has a deep crew of hoopers: LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Eric Bledsoe, Josh Selby, Gary Neal and Donte Greene are all named to be apart of Team Baltimore.

Although the game will be streamed online via The Basketball Channel, but for those who will be near the Palestra next Sunday, you can purchase tickets online at pennathletics.com today starting at 3 p.m. This is a charity event and ticket prices range anywhere from $35 to $50. I know if I were in the Philadelphia area I would be there in a heartbeat.

I have two questions, though: Where’s Dwight Howard during all of this and will Brandon Jennings be making a cameo?

Burned: Streetball Legend Hot Sauce Gives Justin Bieber The Business

This past Sunday, Atlanta-born rapper Ludacris held a basketball charity event dubbed “Luda Day” too help raise money while also giving us hoop fanatics something to drool at. The game featured NBA stars such as Carmelo Anthony, Brandon Jennings, Chris Paul, Kevin Durant and Josh Selby. Despite having those big names too help bring in the crowd, there’s one player who’s arguably more famous than them all at the moment: Justin Bieber. Minus the obvious, the kid can actually hoop and has some nice handles (ask Steve Nash).

Minus the NBA stars, there were some streetballers in attendance such as Philip Champion, also known as “Hot Sauce,” who is arguably the most famous AND1 player on the planet. Now I don’t want to give anything away so checkout the clip to see Bieber get a taste of his own medicine.

Nike Basketball Presents: Kevin Durant Rucker 66

Everyone saw what Kevin Durant did at Rucker Park but listen to the legendary Pee Wee Kirkland break down what Rucker Park means to the streets and to the game of basketball…

Many say the soul of basketball is found on 155th Street in Harlem, New York – Rucker Park – the ultimate blacktop stage. What you do while on that stage creates your place in history — Peewee reminded us of that years ago.

So this summer, when Kevin Durant showed up on the iconic court and dominated, he secured his legend by going “Rucker 66.”

Basketball never stops.
