Chris Bosh Dunks, And Planks, On D.J. White

Honestly, I didn’t know Bosh had it in ‘em to throw down a dunk like this. As for D.J. White — along with myself — this couldn’t have happened at a worse time since IU suffered their first loss of the season Wednesday night against Michigan State, which now puts them at 0-16 all-time against Big Ten teams on the road.

Indiana’s Christian Watford Sinks No. 1 Kentucky

Words will never be able to describe this incident. I attended Indiana University for 4 years (2007-11) and let me begin by saying that our basketball teams were awful during that time (except the ’06-07 season). Sure, we had former 1st round pick Eric Gordon, big man in D.J. White and some heavy hitters with Armon Bassett and Jordan Crawford, but we weren’t a team; it was individual basketball. After most of those guys left during the Kelvin Sampson scandal, a lot of players decided to transfer and we lost a lot of good recruits (Devin Ebanks for example). So yes, after all that happened, we were trash. I mean, Tom Pritchard was our best player at one point for God’s sake. After screaming at the TV for 3 hours on Saturday with hopes of my beloved Hoosiers upsetting the No. 1 team in the nation (Kentucky), Christian Watford fulfilled our dream. He gave us our own “miracle” story. Something we’ve deserved for so long.

Without John Brantley, The Gators Become The Bait

For those who have read my stuff previously or follow my Twitter page, I’m sure most of you already know that I’m a die-hard Florida Gator fan. I’m not talking just football and basketball, I’m talking everything from women’s volleyball to the golf team. As I sat in my homies apartment this follow Saturday during my weekend trip down to my alma mater, Indiana University, I noticed one thing; John Brantley was playing his best game in a Gator’ uniform. Against supposedly the best secondary in college football (although I believe that belongs to LSU), John was torching the Alabama defense. His first pass of the game was a 65-yard touchdown to the versatile Andre Debose. He looked confident, composed and like the guy who holds the state of Florida for passing touchdowns with 99, one more than the former Heisman winner and two-time NCAA champion Tim Tebow.

Although he did have one interception, Brantley completed 11 of 16 passes for 190 yards before he left late in the second quarter after he twisted his knee and ankle during a sack by Alabama linebacker Courtney Upshaw. At that moment, we lost our composure. I knew it, the fans knew it, and most of all coach Will Muschamp knew it.

“When we lost John, that took the wind out of our sails,” Muschamp said after the game.

You have to feel for Brantley; he took a lot of criticism last season — and even during the summer — for struggling in Urban Meyer’s spread offense. Even with improvements made under new offensive coordinator Charlie Weis and in a pro-style offense, Brantley’s lack of consistent downfield passing drew more negative attention. The problem is that we don’t really have a legitimate deep threat on this team. Debose showed his ability to get down field with his speed, but he’s far from consistent. Deonte Thompson is our “true” receiver, but he has the tendency to drop a lot of passes. It’s safe to say that we’ve relied on the legs of Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey to get us through these last four games until we hit a brick wall against ‘Bama.

True freshman and former No. 1 high school quarterback, Jeff Driskel, replaced Brantley during the game and the offense instantly regressed. He looked lost, confused and out-of-place; the same way John did the year before. ESPN announced today that Brantley will not be playing in the LSU game this upcoming Saturday due to a high-ankle sprain, which means that the Gators will be starting a true freshman against the best defense in the nation, on the road and in arguably the toughest stadium in football. Weis will do everything he can to simplify things for Driskel but I have a feeling this game is going to turn ugly. We had the No. 5 ranked defense against the run before the played Alabama and got ran over. Our inexperienced secondary is going to have to be on point through four quarters or we’re going to see the same results like we did last week.

Because of the weekend madness, preparing for the Super Bowl viewing party at The Scheme King’s castle, and just me generally sleeping in on the weekends thus missing the early airings of Saturday and Sunday’s SportsCenter -  I missed these two monstrous college dunks.  Thanks to AP from Dime though, I saw them and now you can see them.  Very impressive.  Above is Will Sheehey of Indiana and below is Larriques Cunningham of Lee University.
