Throwback Saturday: Royce Da 5’9 Ft. Clipse & Pharrell – Mr. Baller

I love the collabo on this song: Royce, Clipse and Pharell team up for this track Mr. Baller. I feel like Royce and the Clipse both have an intense style that go well together and this came out (2002) when Pharrell was still producing quality beats. This song is off Royce’s mixtape Rock City (Version 2.0). So for all you ballers’ out there, enjoy!
Also – if you’re part of twitterverse, I recommend following Royce (@TheRealRoyce59), dude is hilarious.

Clipse never disappoint, it seems like all of their singles are bangers. This time they team up with Pharrell for the beat on their 2nd single, When’s The Last Time from their rookie album Lord Willin’. Little side note, this song peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2002 (Gridin peaked at #30) while the album opened #1 on Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Album Chart and #4 on Billboard Hot 100.

Pharrell sat down with MTV and expressed his opinion that Clipse should sign with Ye’s G.O.O.D. Music. View the full transcript below.
I think that’s gonna be amazing,” Pharrell said. “[Pusha] had been working with ‘Ye. I told him, ‘You should do that.’ We made a lot of great records together, and we’ll continue to make great records. I want him to grow and get other experiences out in the world. He’s gotta figure that out. He’s gotta go out there and see it. Make no mistake, lyrically, that kid is one of the greats — him and his brother. Lyrically, those guys are really serious. They’re well-respected by all of the good dudes. Jay-Z loves them, T.I., Jeezy loves them. All of your favorite rappers, they appreciate a Pusha line or a Malice line. They do. I’m saying with respect for all those artists — I work with those artists. I know the conversations we had. They like what they do. It’s been a long time coming for Pusha and what it is he’s trying to do. He’s gonna get it. And Malice too.

The Clipse performed their hit Popular Demand on last night’s Jimmy Fallon show with the help from Fallon’s house band The Roots. Although they performed the song without Cam’Ron, Black Thought surprised everyone by spitting a new verse to make up for Killa Cam’s absence.
