Photo: Barry Sanders & Robert Griffin III Cover NCAA ’13

How crazy is that cover? With the NFL draft coming up and RG3 expected to be drafted somewhere in the Top 5, his recent NCAA ’13 cover — featuring former Heisman trophy winner and Hall of Fame running back, Barry Sanders — was released today (10 days before the April 26 draft day). The reason Sanders is featured on the cover as well is because EA Sports held a fan voting page to decide who they wanted to see on the this year’s cover. You can read more about the voting, and the decision, after the jump.

Video: Carmelo Anthony Appears On “Nurse Jackie”

Nurse Jackie – played by Eddie Falco aka Mrs. Soprano – is a TV show on Showtime, and although I’ve never watched an episode, the plot has to do with her pill-popping issues. Just aired this past Friday, Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony showed his acting abilities (he was believable) as a professional baseball player.

See Melo’s not-too-shabby acting in the clip below.

Gilbert Arenas Gives Explanation On Why He Pulled Out Guns In Wizards Locker Room

April 12, 2012 by

It’s been three years since the famous locker room incident that happened in Washington amongst former teammates Gilbert Arenas and JaVaris Crittenton. Gilbert’s career is far from what it was during, lets say, 2004-06, but he’s enjoying himself in Memphis right now and has found his shooting stroke as of late.

But despite all that, Arenas still gets asked about the gun incident that earned him a suspension back in ’09, and Gilbert finally gave us the real answer as to why he pulled out four guns in the locker room that life-changing day. According to the “Silent Assassin,” it all started after then-Wizards center JaVale McGee (now a Denver Nugget) beat Crittenton during an $1100 poker game. In return, Crittenton started getting heated toward McGee because 1. He just lost all that money, and 2. JaVale apparently owed $200 then-Wizards guard Earl Boynkins.

Video: Victor Cruz Hand-Delivers His Jersey To J. Cole

I’m sure J. Cole became a fan of Victor Cruz and his famous Salsa dance just around the same time as everyone else in the world, but according to Cole, Cruz is his favorite player in the NFL right now. And we know that athletes wanna be rappers, and rappers wish they were athletes (so Drake says), so what better way to award your supposed “biggest” fan than hand-delivering your own jersey to one of the biggest stars in the rap game?

Urban Meyer Responds To Criticism Over Florida Downfall

April 11, 2012 by

Listen, I love Urban Meyer to death for everything he’s done to help bring my beloved Florida Gators to football glory during his tenure as coach, but I’m also not stupid. I know behind those doors something was going on with our players, especially the best ones. And it all started after newly-hired head coach Will Muschamp let go of All-American cornerback, Janoris Jenkins, after Meyer resigned in which, Janoris responded with: “If coach Meyer was still there, I’d still be a Gator.”

When I first heard that, my initial thought of course, was, “What does that even mean?” Well, I didn’t need much time to think on the subject but, it basically meant that Meyer would have pulled some strings to keep Janoris on the team after he was arrested for the second time in a year for possession of marijuana. On Monday, Matt Hayes of Sporting News debuted an article titled “From champs to chomped: How Urban Meyer broke Florida football.” That’s one hell of a headline if you ask me. And as a lifelong Gator’ fan, it immediately caught my eye at 2 in the morning.

Ray Allen Thinks Players Should Be Paid To Play In Olympics

April 11, 2012 by

I don’t know what’s up with the Boston Celtics and Team USA, but this is the second time today that a Celtic’ player has chimed in about the Olympics (See Rondo’s story here). For those who don’t already know, Ray Allen won gold back in 2000 during the Olympics in Sydney alongside teammate Kevin Garnett. And although most players who devote their time and dedication to the team do it to show just how great our country really is, Allen believes players should be paid to play in the Olympics once the NBA’s regular season comes to an end.

Rajon Rondo Has No Interest In Playing For Team USA

April 11, 2012 by

My man Rondo — and the Celtics as a whole — has been playing phenomenal since the All-Star break. Boston has the most wins in the NBA since the break (18), and Rondo now has 10+ assists through 18 games, in which he broke John Stockton’s record along the way. There’s a reason Rondo’s my favorite point guard in the league and his game speaks enough measures for me to not give an explanation why. And as one of the top point guards in the league, most would probably expect Rondo to be interested in playing for Team USA this summer or in 2016. But according to Fox Sports Florida, apparently the former Kentucky star has zero interest in representing his country:

Video: Carmelo’s Game-Winning Three Against Bulls

No Jeremy Lin, No Amar’e: Just Carmelo Anthony. And thanks to his 43 points and this absolutely cold-blooded 3-pointer against Chicago on Sunday, the Knicks are back to being Melo’s team. But you know what the best thing about that shot is? Anthony hit that same shot against Luol Deng two years again when he was still with the Nuggets. (see video here)
