It’s not easy being a Bucs’ fan (trust me, I know) these days. Hell, if it wasn’t for our Super Bowl win all the way back in 2002, it would hard to remain a fan at all. But for some reason we continue to love and support this team, no matter how bad. It’s kind of like the Chicago Cubs; they haven’t won a World Series in over 100 years, yet, people in Chicago love them as if they were hanging up pennants like the Yankees.

If you haven’t heard already, Tampa Bay’s head coach Raheem Morris was fired early Monday morning after going on a 10-game losing streak after starting the year 4-2 and riding first place in the NFC South. After going 10-6 last season, there were extremely high expectations for the youngest team in the league, but they regressed quicker than they improved.

Guys like Josh Freeman (who many consider an elite QB) struggled throughout the year and dealt with a thumb injury, LeGarrette Blount wasn’t the rookie sensation that he was the previous year and fumbled almost every time he touched the ball, and Mike Williams caught the exact same amount of passes with 65, but hauled in only 771 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Far less than the 964 yards and 11 touchdowns during his rookie year.

In three years as the youngest head coach in the league, Morris went 17-31, but what do you expect when you come into an organization with absolutely nothing to work with on offense except 2 or 3 bright spots? Not to mention Morris also ran the defense, which is nowhere near what it was during the late 90′s and early 2000′s when guys like Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, and John Lynch were flying around the ball. Ronde Barber’s still there though, looking like he’s never aged a day.

Despite coming into a bad situation, Raheem had nothing but positive things to say:

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Glazer family for the opportunity they gave me to be the Head Coach of the Buccaneers,” Morris said in a statement his agent provided to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. “I was honored and blessed to have spent the majority of my coaching career with the same (class) organization. I grew up with the Bucs and I was fortunate enough to be part of a Super Bowl victory there.”

There were a number of things that went wrong this season, starting with Freeman. Josh threw 16 touchdowns vs. 22 interceptions after tossing 25 TD passes and being intercepted just six times in 2010. We also turned the ball over a league-leading 40 times, compared to 19 last season. Our defense wasn’t what it was, either. We dealt with injuries and threw in backup players that couldn’t fight their way out of a wet-paper bag, which resulted in league-high 494 points given up.

Tampa couldn’t win with a young coach, which means it’s time to bring in an establish veteran. A guy like Jeff Fisher — who has made it clear that he wants to make a return to coaching and would be the first guy the Bucs’ call because he’s the best available — would almost be a perfect fit with this young team. He’s been there, he’s done that. He’s been coaching teams when most of these guys weren’t even born yet or just walking around in diapers. He won 140 games and made it to the Super Bowl.

Despite of stating what Tampa needs, there are also things that the Glazer family (owners) should do, and that starts with general manager Mark Dominik. We need a real GM, someone who isn’t afraid to spend money to go after top-tier players in free agency and the draft. This is a guy who once re-signed Quincey Black over Barrett Ruud (who, at that time, was our leading tackler for four-straight years. Something only Derrick Brooks has done), when he should have addressed a rather weak safety and outside linebacking position.

The receivers are decent, but outside of Mike Williams, there really isn’t another go-to guy, which caused Williams to get double-teamed most of the season. So it certainly wouldn’t hurt to go after a veteran receiver who can make plays and go down field.

Barber, who’s been with the team since ’96 and has already contemplated retirement and fought to keep Morris’ coaching job, says things are a lot different:

“It seems like a long time ago. It seems like a lifetime ago, to be honest with you. It’s been a lifetime ago for a number of years. … It almost seems like a different career,” Barber said before the Atlanta game. “Lots changed since then. Our philosophy in the building. Definitely the way we play defense. It’s not the same.”

Barber is a straight-shooter and he’s seen it all, and in my eyes he’s a Hall of Fame player and arguably the most complete cornerback in NFL history, but if Tampa plans on making a return to playoff contention, a head coach is the least of their worries.

I think it’s safe to say that Barber won’t be returning and why should he? He’s 36 years old, did everything he possibly could for this team in 14 years, so why should he go out there and break his back for an unsure thing where players quit? It’s just not worth it anymore.

When the Buc’s bring in another coach, hopefully they won’t make the same mistake they did with Morris: Bringing in a guy into a bad situation and expecting him to win with almost nothing to work with, and then fire him because he didn’t bring you a Super Bowl.

Everyone loves seeing the new Pro Bowl rosters when they drop, it gives people plenty of opportunities to agree and disagree on which players are going to Hawaii and which ones are staying at home watching it on TV. As for me, there are a couple players that didn’t make it onto the list that I believe should have, but I’ll save that for a rainy day. So in the meantime, peep the full AFC and NFC Pro Bowl rosters after the jump. (* Denotes starter.)

Although it might not be a shocker, but the best teams in the league such as the 49ers have 8 players going to the Pro Bowl, Baltimore has 7, Green Bay has 7 and New England has 8.

But hey, while might guys take this as a great accomplishment for getting recognized by the things that they do on the field, and then there are other guys like Terrell Suggs who has “no intention” of playing in the Pro Bowl because he and his teammates will be practicing for the Super Bowl.

Get ‘em, T-Sizzle..

Can’t help but think about what’s going through Skip Bayless’s mind after he heard John Elway’s interview this morning. But before we get into that, that’s get to some particulars: Since Kyle Orton took over the QB position with Denver at the start of the season, they went 1-4, and he was ultimately benched. The entire state of Colorado cheered and rallied to have head coach John Fox start former Heisman trophy winner and 2x national champion at Florida, Tim Tebow, and he ended up giving them their wish (in somewhat of a “You want him? Here you go” kinda way).

End results? An 83.6 QB rating, 1,405 passing yards, 10 touchdowns (2 INT’s) and a 7-2 record.

For a guy who supposedly couldn’t play QB or wouldn’t last in the NFL because of his style of play and was shamefully passed up by his own hometown team, the Jacksonville Jaguars (How’s Blaine Gabbert working out by the way?). Thus far, I’d say Tebow has done wonderful things for not only himself, but for his team.

He brought a revitalized energy to the offense and lit a fire under the guys on defense. These guys are professionals, but when your team is 1-4 to start the season and not producing plays on either side of the ball, emotions tend to fade and hope starts to get lost. I’m not saying Tebow is the reason the defense is playing better (Von Miller has a lot to do with it), but I am saying that when those eleven guys are sitting on the bench, watching him make plays and get his team out of late 4th quarter jams (4x), it makes them want to back him up, to scratch his back so-to-speak.

John Elway, the Broncos team president and easily Tebow’s biggest non-believer, finally saw the light. According to ESPN, Elway had an interview with the Associated Press where he stated that come April 2012, they will not be drafting another QB (although guys like Robert Griffin III & Matt Barkley are highly appealing) in this year’s NFL Draft:

“Tim Tebow’s not going anywhere,” Elway said. “I mean, he’s going to be a Bronco and we’re going to do everything we can and hopefully he’s that guy.”

Wow — those are BIG words coming from a guy who Bayless said would NEVER approve of Tebow. That just goes to show that it’s easy to judge a book by his cover. What was the guy supposed to do? Say that Tebow is their QB of the future because he won them a couple games? No, at least not right away. Elway’s made some great moves during the offseason to help get this team to where it’s at right now (the re-signing of Champ Bailey, drafting Von Miller, bringing in Willis McGahee, re-signing kicker Matt Prater and hiring John Fox), and that’s why they’re on their way to their first playoff birth since 2005.

As of right now, the ceiling is endless for Tebow and the Bronco’s because teams still aren’t completely sure on how to plan for them. Tim’s becoming a lot more comfortable than he’s ever been (way more than college) playing in the pocket. He’s becoming a Michael Vick (not talent wise) — a lot quicker with developing patience in the pocket and not instantly thinking “run!” — and that, ultimately, could be the most dangerous thing Tebow can obtain because if teams are seeing him make great throws from the pocket, then, well …

he becomes feared.

He becomes a bigger threat.
