Jay Bilas is HANDS DOWN the TRILLEST college basketball sports analyst in all of the lands!

Nike does it again. To reward 8 Nike schools who’ve been dominate in college basketball, the athletic apparel company is lacing up these national championship colleges with newly designed “HyperElite” uniforms. They’ve each been crafted with notched up performance in mind (lightweight fabrics, laser-etched perforations for breathability) and maintain a minimal impact on the environment (96% recycled materials on the jerseys and 100%) on the shorts. While Arizona, Duke, Florida, Kentucky, Syracuse, UNC, and Baylor all are getting these new uniforms, UConn will be the 1 school rocking them when their cutting down the nets come early April. As I die hard Gator’ fan, I gotta say: Patric Young is slowing becoming one of my favorite basketball players in Florida history, and in just his second season. Prior to this seasons hype, I described Young as a Kenyon Martin clone during his days with the Bearcats. His toughness, hustle, athleticism, post moves, shot blocking and strength are all near replicas of a young K-Mart (minus the injuries .. knock on wood). During the Florida-Florida State game Thursday night, where my Gators dismantled them, Young had easily the block of the year (so far).

Speaking of the Young-Martin comparison; don’t ask me how I remember this but skip to the 48 second mark of the video below to see nearly the almost exact same block on Dwyane Wade.

LOL at the #1 thought! If you didn’t know, David Letterman hosts a tradition of getting famous people to come on his show and give 10 thoughts about something that’s relevant to that celeb’s life. In this case, it’s Baylor Quarterback and the newest member of the prestigious Heisman Trophy Winner’s Club, Robert Griffin III.

Side note – doesn’t he look a lot like a young Andre 3000?!

During the final seconds of the crosstown Big East / Atlantic 10 rivalry game between Xavier and Cincinnati, a bench clearing brawl erupted when words turned to pushes and then pushes turned to punches. Xavier big man Kenny Frease ended up catching a right hook and getting stomped on while Cincinnati’s Yancy Gates, Cheikh Mbodj, and X’s Tu Holloway and others were in the middle of everything. Holloway explained in the press conference after that they “got a whole bunch of gangsters.” Not the most political correct thing to say…

Words will never be able to describe this incident. I attended Indiana University for 4 years (2007-11) and let me begin by saying that our basketball teams were awful during that time (except the ’06-07 season). Sure, we had former 1st round pick Eric Gordon, big man in D.J. White and some heavy hitters with Armon Bassett and Jordan Crawford, but we weren’t a team; it was individual basketball. After most of those guys left during the Kelvin Sampson scandal, a lot of players decided to transfer and we lost a lot of good recruits (Devin Ebanks for example). So yes, after all that happened, we were trash. I mean, Tom Pritchard was our best player at one point for God’s sake. After screaming at the TV for 3 hours on Saturday with hopes of my beloved Hoosiers upsetting the No. 1 team in the nation (Kentucky), Christian Watford fulfilled our dream. He gave us our own “miracle” story. Something we’ve deserved for so long.

Jay Bilas DA SNOWMAN! If you follow Bilas on Twitter then you know he tweets Jeezy lyrics all day, everyday but he took it to a whole new level last night by actually quoting him on live TV! All the old Mizzou and Villanova alumni watching along on ESPN probably had the “Jeezy who?” look on their face…

I think it’s safe to say that Bilas has a hood pass in ATL for life…

On a Saturday night where people were still partying and enjoying their Thanksgiving long weekend, or recovering from their food itis, or even in shock that UNLV upset #1 UNC – Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had the dunk of the year that practically no one saw when Kentucky squared off against Portland. This UK team has TONS of talent (check that Anthony Davis alley-oop right before the big Kidd-Gilchrist slam) and it’s going to be interesting to see how they put it all together over the course of the season.

I’ve been a fan of Lamb’s since before he stepped foot in Connecticut and now, especially after this, you can expect to see a major bandwagon this season for the sophomore. Kemba’s gone, this is Lamb’s team now.

Tell me that isn’t scary?

What’s even scarier is trying to figure out exactly how head coach Billy Donovan is going to control all these different types of personalities. Erving, Kenny and Mike all have a lot to prove this season — Scottie and Brad are still young — and I expect them to play the most out of all five guys. Although we’re extremely deep, there are others teams that are pretty deep as well such as Duke and Kentucky, which Yahoo! Rivals.com took into consideration when they decided to give their take on who they believe has the deepest backcourt this season.

1. FLORIDA
Erving Walker and Kenny Boynton will be starting alongside each other for the third season. The 5-foot-8 Walker is a fearless shooter who has been the Gators’ go-to player in the late minutes. He averaged 14.6 points last season and had converted 38.4 percent of his career 3-point attempts. Less of the offensive load should be on his shoulders, which should be a plus; he looked worn down at times last season because of his workload. Boynton is a streaky shooter, but he averaged 14.2 points last season while playing solid defense. He, too, should benefit from having to play fewer minutes. Florida’s backcourt gets stronger with the addition of five-star freshman Brad Beal, the No. 4 player in the 2011 class. Beal is an elite shooter with a vast array of offensive skills. Mike Rosario is eligible after his transfer from Rutgers. He’s another with a scorer’s mentality who should benefit from a shared offensive load. Rosario, Walker and Boynton all have 1,000 career points. Sophomore Scottie Wilbekin won’t be asked to contribute much offensively, but he is a solid defender and an able distributor.

Having something like this could end up turning into a blessing, or a disaster waiting to happen. But for our sake, I’m hoping it’s a blessing because come tournament time, depth is usually the deciding factor on who reaches the championship game.
