No one wants to switch positions, especially the one you’ve played all your life. But when it comes to winning, sacrifices have to be made. I mean, after all, isn’t winning a World Series the ultimate goal for a baseball player? Or is it just the $200 million deals?

When the Florida — I’m sorry, Miami — Marlins brought in former White Sox’ manager Ozzie Guillen to man the ship and signed former Mets shortstop Jose Reyes to a $106 million deal, reports surfaced that All-Star Hanley Ramirez was unhappy about having to move down the bench because of the new signee. But lets face it, as a Marlin’ fan myself, even I know that Hanley is below-average in fielding defense and has made horrible players at SS. He’s gotten lazy there a few times and has been caught with his head in the sky watching the pigeons search for half-eaten hot dogs.

Despite all that, it seems that Guillen found a way to convince Hanley about the switch:

“I have spoken with Guillen,” Ramirez said. “What we want is to win with the Marlins. We will see what’s going to happen with the position switch and everything else. If it’s third base, OK. Wherever they put me to win, I will do so.”

Hanley also went on to say that there are no problems between him and Reyes and that he “respects him very much.” This is the first “grown man” move that Hanley has made during his career which means, after all these years, he’s willing to put the team before him.

With Reyes at shortstop and Ramirez at third, the Marlins become stronger defensively at both positions, and more potent offensively. Reyes hit .337 with the New York Mets last year to win the NL batting title, and Ramirez — a career .306 hitter — was the 2009 batting champ (via Associated Press).

With other off-season additions such as two All-Star pitchers in Mark Buehrle and Heath Bell, things are really starting to look-up for the Marlins, especially with playing in a new stadium. The only worry I have about this team is the health. Hanley was nursing a season-ending shoulder injury the last few months, Reyes was starting to earn himself a “injury prone” label, and ace pitcher Josh Johnson can’t seem to stay healthy either.

But one thing’s for certain: If Johnson isn’t healthy, the Marlins don’t win a championship.

When September ends and October approaches it can only mean one thing, MLB Playoffs. With the New York Yankees clinching the AL East yesterday and the Boston Red Sox fighting to hold on to their AL Wild Card spot, Red Sox faithful John Krasinski and die hard Yankees’ fan Alec Baldwin share a couch on The Odd Couple New Era couch.

The world’s most winning-est MLB franchise gets a custom special edition pair of Nike Trainer 1.3 Max. The colorway goes with the New York Yankee’s classic navy blue, grey and white while the soles even include an engraving of each of their World Series Championship years. On the day Derek Jeter needed two more hits to reach the historical 3,000, the New York Yankees Captain went 5/5 including a HR for his 3,000th career hit. Yesterday was the day DJ2 became DJ28 as he’s only the 28th player to ever accomplish 3,000 hits in a career. Immediately after the ball was hit, Jordan Brand dropped the above promo video online for viral purposes.

The dude who caught the home run ball, Christian Lopez, pulled of the dumbest act ever. The Yankees pulled him into a private room and asked him what he wanted. He could have sold the ball back for millions or even auctioned the ball off but he simply just gave it back to the team, asking for nothing in return. To reward him for his idiotic kind gesture, the organization gave him a few autographed baseballs, bats, Derek Jeter jerseys, Champions Suite Seat Tickets for the rest of the season and playoffs, and he got to meet Jeter, Jay-Z, and Reggie Jackson.
